DBP: AKP responsible for deaths

The DBP Central Executive Council has issued a statement regarding the increasing police violence in recent days, and the serious injury suffered by Central Executive Council (MYK) member Semra Demir in a police attack at the Kobanê border. The DBP stressed that the AKP government was responsible for the violence being meted out to people at the border, not just a few local officials.
The statement noted that the authorities were continuing to attack the parties and patriots that were trying to organise and increase the solidarity with the resistance in Kobanê. It said that while on the one hand the government was preparing a “security law”, on the other the security forces are on the attack, adding: "In these attacks they are not using gas canisters to disperse crowds in accordance with universal rules, but as a means to injure and even kill.”
“The AKP state’s ‘security’ forces opened fire from close range with a gas canister on our MYK member Semra Demir, who was at the vigil in the village of Mehser.” Semra Demir suffered a serious head wound and was taken to hospital, where her condition is grave.
The DBP statement noted that those responsible for the violent attacks on the Kurdish people and the DBP are not a few local officials, but the AKP state itself. “Consequently, they will be responsible for any loss of life. We call on the government to behave responsibly and abandon its continuing violence. We also call on the authorities to investigate and prosecute those who gave the order to fire at Semra Demir and those who carried out the order,” the statement continued.
The statement concluded by calling on everyone to not remain silent and to step up their protests against the ISIS gang attacks.

If our demands are not met, we will radicalise our action.”
Kaya also called on the Kurdish people to step up their solidarity with the heroic resistance in Kobanê and to expose the AKP-ISIS collaboration.

1294 ISIS members killed in Kobanê

According to figures released yesterday by YPG sources on the 30th day in ISIS’s attack on Kobanê, 1,294 ISIS fighters have been killed in the fighting over the last one month. Ten tanks and a large number of military vehicles have also been destroyed and a large number of military equipment has been captured.
Kobanê, which has been under siege by ISIS for a year and a half, has been under heavy attack since September 15th. The goal of ISIS, which has brought up reinforcements from its centers as far away as Mosul and Rakka, was to capture Kobanê quickly. However owing to the resistance of YPG and YPJ fighters they were unable to carry out their plan. ISIS, which wants to lessen the pain of its defeats in Jezza, Sinjar Til Hemis and Rabia, wanted victory in Kobanê and began attacking on all three fronts around the city with heavy weapons.
ISIS has intensified its attacks on Kobanê with weapons captured from the Syrian and Iraqi armies and the support of Turkey. However the open support given to the gangs by Turkey has been noticed by the public.
On September 20th Turkey sent 5 trucks full of rockets and heavy machine guns. These arms were delivered to ISIS near the village of Qeremox in the El-Bet region of the Kobanê canton. This support has been documented on multiple occasions. The ISIS gangs, receiving support from Turkey and other regional powers, have massacred scores of civilians around Kobanê including children, women and the elderly. The gangs, now attacking the city center, have been dealt serious blows over recent days and have lost many of their forward positions. In fighting with the YPG/YPJ over the course of the last month 1,294 ISIS have been killed and a large quantity of military equipment and weapons were captured.

Chomsky asks UN to call for ceasefire in Kobanê

The UN Security Council should help establish a ceasefire to prevent a massacre of Kurdish fighters, defending Kobanê from Islamic State of Iraq and Sham (ISIS) militants, said world-renowned academic and political thinker Noam Chomsky.

"With regard to Kobanê, it is a shocking situation. This morning's newspaper described Turkish military operation against Kurds in Turkey, not against ISIS, a couple of kilometers across the border where they are in danger of being slaughtered. I think something should be done at the UN in terms of a strong resolution to call for a ceasefire," Chomsky told reporters at the UN headquarters.

'Kobanê could be a major massacre with enormous consequences'

"It is hard to impose the use of force, but to the extent that it can be done to protect Kobanê from destruction at the hands of ISIS, which could be a major massacre with enormous consequences," Chomsky said, adding that "the strategic significance of the town in the Kurdish region is pretty obvious, and the Turkish role is critical in this."
